▼▼□-Ø42[ Mothership Module Complete]
Wrapping up my Mothership RPG module, and moving on to a new production method.
It’s wild how fast this year is going. We just returned from an awesome trip out to LA to visit my brother and spend some time in the sun with the family.
When we returned the weather was already starting to warm up which means spring is almost here. I’m sure we’ll have a few more bouts of cold days but it’s going to be nice to be back outside for most of the afternoons.
//Reclaimer
This last month I wrapped up the remaining module assets for my Reclaimer adventure. One thing I always wanted to try is a Resident Evil or Deus Ex style inventory system in a TTRPG.
With Reclaimer I felt that was the perfect adventure for it, players get a special pack designed to hold and protect all of the items they find.
This pack doesn’t have infinite space so players can choose how they want share the load amongst each other. I also added some more flavor to the over all world with a contract for the players, which should help the warden with some world building.
Overall this was a super fun project to work on, I’ve got some ideas for more modules but I’m going to set my focus on some other projects for the time being, like my next game.
Get both module elements here.
If you play it and have feedback, I’d love to hear it!
//Next Game Project
I’ve been really struggling to find the heart of the current game i’m working on. I spent what time I had last month making some art assets because mechanically I was stuck. I have some ideas but It’s not as clear to me what it should be and I feel it’s not going in a direction that’s going to hit any of the goals that I set out for myself.
So I think i’m going to shelve it for a bit and turn my focus to the other prototype I made a few months back and really try to flesh it out.
This other prototype I already have a pretty solid vision for what it can be, and I think that’s where i’m struggling with my current project.
I’m also going to try a different method to building this one and hopefully it will only take me 12 to 24 months to finish it.
Step 1 will be to make a prototype of the full game loop. I’ve documented what that is and I’m going to be working on it fast and loose. I’m going to give myself 2 months to do it, since I have limited time. Ideally if I was working on this full time it would only take a day or two to wrap it up.
I will be only creating assets I need to prove concepts and using some temp code templates to prove it out.
Once I feel that it’s in a good spot, then I’ll move into MVP mode. This is where I’ll focus on honing in the mechanics and defining the art style. In this phase I want to make sure I have a sample of every mechanic I anticipate adding and think through how they will scale with the game.
During this time, I want to test the mvp a ton, hone in how it feels so production is just assets, polish, etc.
Let’s see how this goes.
Till next time!
